Company Profile
Feedstock: Grass
Fuel: Briquettes and Pellets
Energy Output: Thermal (Heat and Hot Water)
Services: Equipment Manufacturer/Supplier, Fuel Processing, Fuel Supply
RER provides customers with a complete fuel service from “field to flue” by producing and delivering grass pellets and briquettes and removing ash for customers. RER also works with farmers to establish grass feedstocks by developing biomass fuel standards and long-term contracts to ensure reliability for both the customer and the farmer. By establishing best practices and designing and manufacturing new processing equipment, RER has led the way to providing high-quality grass fuel to businesses and institutions.
IMPROVING FUEL QUALITY
From the start, RER recognized the need for better fuel processing protocols to improve fuel quality.
RER began by collecting input from those already in the business, like current grass fuel processors, farmers, researchers at the University of Vermont, and experts with the United States Department of Agriculture. Their findings led to the establishment of a set of best practices and standard production protocols.
BRINGING AN IMPROVED PRODUCT TO MARKET
In 20xx, RER received grant funding from Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund to design and fabricate a 2-ton per hour mobile grass briquetter, suitable for commercial production. The design was based on a smaller mobile unit built by BHS Energy, and purchased for use by RER to supply grass heating fuel to the Benton PA school district in 2011.
Also included in the work supported by the grant from VSJF was identifying steps to build new markets for utilizing pelletized grass as a heating fuel in Vermont. [what results can we share from this work?]
